Walnut Grill in Wexford hosting ‘Fill That Truck’ toy drive

The Ninth Annual “Fill That Truck” toy drive is almost over, but organizers are still accepting donations through 9:30 a.m. on Saturday when they start loading up the truck at the Walnut Grill location in Wexford.
The drive benefits families in the Women’s Choice Network program.
“It supports local families so it all stays right here in Pittsburgh,” said Patty Bittle, director of marketing and events at Walnut Grill Restaurant Group.
They are primarily looking for donations of toys for children three years old and younger, Bittle said. Some of the families Women’s Choice Network serves do have older children, however, so donations of toys for older kids are also accepted.
The organization has four locations throughout the Pittsburgh area. Throughout the year the women in the program can earn “baby bucks.”
“Then when we take the toys they can use the baby bucks to “buy” the toys,” Bittle said. “They look forward to this event all year and since they earn the baby bucks they know that come Christmas they’re not going to be struggling if they don’t have the money.”
Last year they helped 1,000 families, Bittle said, and are hoping to help even more this year. In addition to toys they also accept clothing and other needed items for families with babies and toddlers. Monetary donations this year were used to buy car seats and Pack ‘n Play portable cribs.
Two Men and a Truck donates the truck and on Saturday morning they’ll load everything and begin distribution to the organization’s different locations. Take your donations to Walnut Grill at 12599 Perry Highway in Wexford.
