Recent Pine-Richland graduate and Eagle Scout, Ryan Farbacher, earned all 138 Boy Scout Merit Badges while an active scout in Troop 344. While earning 21 merit badges is a requirement to earn the Eagle rank, only a small percentage, less than 1%, of all scouts earn all of the merit badges that are available during their time as a boy scout.
Shortly after crossing over to Troop 344 Ryan was challenged by an adult leader to complete all 138 merit badges. Always ready for a challenge, Ryan made the decision and developed a plan to achieve this rare goal.
Each merit badge has a number of requirements including safety, career opportunities, research, and working with a merit badge counselor to discuss the badge. During his quest to achieve his goal, Ryan faced challenges along the way. One challenge he faced occurred when he was trying to finish his last merit badge, Truck Transportation, 7 days before he was to report to the US Naval Academy. Ryan’s dedication to his goal challenged him and he achieved his goal of 138.
Ryan is currently in his first year of studies at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
