International Day of Peace Festival

The International Day of Peace will be observed in the North Hills with a festival on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Point Grove on Lakeshore Drive in North Park. This year’s theme is “Global Peace Starts with US”. The goal is to come together with people of all ages to celebrate cultures, diversity, and community while we promote peace, safety, and respect for all.
The festival will feature foods from various cultures, entertainment, speakers, and activities including henna painting and origami. Entertainment will include dancing by the Chinese Cultural Group and music by violinist Monique Mead. Speakers will include Angelica Ocampo, Director, World Affairs Council; Peyton Klein, Founder & Director of Global Minds; Samir Lakhani, Founder & Director Ecosoap; and local high school students.
The festival will conclude with a colorful procession and ceremony of 194 flags of United Nations countries.

The North Hills International Day of Peace Planning Committee is made up of representatives from Pittsburgh North People for Peace, North Hills Anti-Racism Coalition, La Roche College, League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, Muslim Association of Greater Pittsburgh, North Hills Ebony Women, Inc., AAUW North Hills Pittsburgh, and the Sisters of Divine Providence and local high school students.
