Hampton Heritage Day – New Summer Event!
Thursday, June 13, 2019 | 2:24 PM
Sunday, June 30, 1-4 pm
Over 200 years ago, the earliest European settlers began building their log homes and clearing fields for their farms. These hardworking folk, their offspring, and the settlers who followed, created the community of Talley Cavey and Hampton Township.
Who were these people? Many are buried in the cemetery here at the Depreciation Lands Museum, once the burying ground for the Pine Creek Covenanter Church. Virtually unknown, however, is the Covenanter’s first cemetery, known as the “Pine Creek Cemetery”, a beautiful place, nestled within tall trees and a wrought iron fence behind the Quality Inn on Route 8.
We learn our forebears names and the dates of their lives from their gravestones. We often learn a bit about more their life, as well, through inscriptions and motifs carved into the stones. Through family histories, old newspaper articles, and histories written at the time, we glean an image of life here in the late 18th and 19th centuries.Join us as we explore our two historic cemeteries today. Learn what we know about the people who built the world around us. Bring your family tales to add to our collection of local histories.
Begin your day at either cemetery:

– The Pine Creek Cemetery, located behind the Quality Inn
