Testimony began Monday in the trial of a man who is charged with selling the heroin that killed a McCandless man in 2016.

Robert Keller, 32, of Richland, is charged in connection with the Sept. 11, 2016, overdose death of Clay Richwalls, 44, of McCandless.

Police found four stamp bags of “Space Jam” heroin near Richwalls’ body and reviewed recent activity of his cellphone that ultimately led them to Keller. Text messages show that Richwalls would leave money in a barn on his mother’s property in Richland and that Keller would deliver the drugs there.

The men knew each other because they would hang out at a West Deer salvage yard, police said.

Allegheny County Judge Thomas Flaherty is presiding in the jury trial. Keller is represented by Brian Aston of Greensburg.
