What’s happening around town: Sept. 13-15

The International Day of Peace will be observed in the North Hills with a festival from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at Point Grove on Lakeshore Drive in North Park. This year’s theme is “Global Peace Starts With Us.” The goal is to come together with people of all ages to celebrate cultures, diversity and community while promoting peace, safety and respect for all.
The festival will feature foods from various cultures, entertainment, speakers and activities, including henna painting and origami. Entertainment will include dancing by the Chinese Cultural Group and music by violinist Monique Mead. Speakers will include Angelica Ocampo, director of the World Affairs Council; Peyton Klein, founder and director of Global Minds; Samir Lakhani, founder and director of Ecosoap; and local high school students.

Rams hit the road
The Pine-Richland football team is a perfect 3-0 to start the season and will try to stay unbeaten on Sept. 13 when they travel to Butler to take on the Golden Tornado (0-3).
The stadium is located at 120 Campus Lane, Butler. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m
The 19th annual McCandless Community Daywill kick off at noon Sept. 14 with a parade followed by an opening ceremony at 12:45 p.m. at the main stage.
Performances will include the Allegro Ballet, Kardaz, Michele’s Dance Center, Red Hot Ramblers, Chris Jamison and the Allegheny Brass Band.
Activities for the kids include face painting, balloon art, caricature art and famous Junior Firefighter Combat Challenge.
There will be a car cruise, food, prize auctions and rides.
The event, which will be held at Devlin Memorial Park, will conclude with a fireworks display starting at 9 p.m. The park is at 9957 Grubbs Road.
Boys, Girls Soccer games
On Sept. 14, the boys and girls varsity soccer teams will be in action at the Pine-Richland stadium.
At 1 p.m., the boys will take on Seneca Valley.
At 5 p.m., the girls team will host North Catholic.
