The transition of chiefs of police continues as John Sicilia was officially sworn in as the new Northern Regional Police Department head at the Nov. 18 Richland Township board of supervisors meeting.

Current chief Bob Amann is retiring after 44 years, and his last day on the job will be Nov. 30. Sicilia, currently the department’s captain, will begin his new duties Dec. 1, prior to the next Richland board meeting.

Sicilia’s family and several members of the police department were present for the swearing in.

“We certainly wish you a lot of success and look forward to working with you to preserve the values and the safety of our residents and business people,” township Manager Dean Bastianini told Sicilia before board Chairman Ray Kendrick administered the oath.

Amann was recognized at the Pine board of supervisors meeting on the same night for his service to the community.
