The Pine Community Center’s fall offerings include some old favorites and a slew of new programs for kids and adults.

The community center recently hired Hannah Durant as its new program coordinator, and the Penn State graduate is already putting together some creative new events for kids, tweens and teens.

Durant graduated with a degree in recreation, park and tourism management. She always said her dream job was to be a camp director, and when she got to the Pine Community Center and ran the summer recreation program she started to feel like she was, in fact, in that job.

“It’s always been a passion of mine working with kids and offering recreational outlets for them to be creative and active,” she said. “It’s really been a dream, especially coming out of a program like Penn State we talked about all the stuff we could do one day and I actually get to live it now.”

Durant is eager for the kids’ night out on Nov. 27 and the parents’ nights out, held Nov. 8 and Dec. 13. The kids will get to come hang out, play sports, do crafts, eat snacks and have fun while parents get a chance to do what they need to do or have some time to themselves in the meantime, she said.

She’s also excited about “bad art night” on Oct. 18, billed as a “freestyle art event for teens and tweens” with a competition to see who can make the “worst” piece of art.

“I thought of it,” she said of the origin. “Not everyone is super-artistic and I thought it would be fun.”

Another new offering this fall is an escape room night for kids ages 10 to 16 on Oct. 11.

“We’re going to make an escape room out of our multipurpose room and the kids will have to figure out how to get out by solving puzzles,” Durant said.

Longtime favorites on the schedule include programs such as muck and mess, story time and tot time.

The Halloween party is Saturday, Oct. 26.

On the fitness side, there are several new programs including training for the EQT 10 Miler, to be held on Nov. 2, a Biggest Loser program that will run from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 and several TRX small group training sessions including a bosu and battle rope class, a high-intensity treadmill class called tread and shred and a class tailored to women who want to start strength training.
